During the first centuries of the Common Era, the city of Zippori (Sepphoris) was the capital of the Galilee for the Roman Empire, and a thriving urban center for both Jewish and Hellenistic Roman communities. Today, the outstanding archaeological excavations at Zippori have made it one of the most important historic sites in all of Israel. Visitors come to Zippori National Park from around the world to marvel at the exquisitely preserved mosaic floors, Roman amphitheater, synagogue and water system. Hidden among the stones of Zippori is a fascinating history of Jews and Hellenists living side by side, where one of the most important events in Jewish history the codification of oral law into the Mishnah - took place.   Building on Zippori's fascinating historical narrative and outstanding archaeological setting, this project proposes to create, with a relatively minimal investment, a world-class attraction that will be mandatory on every visitor's agenda.
Zippori has the potential to join the Tower of David and Masada as one of the "must-see" destinations for visitors to Israel and Israelis alike. This potential can be realized by re-conceiving and upgrading the park's exhibition spaces, to relay the unique story of Zippori through a compelling and unforgettable visiting experience.
